Due to worsening climate change, which will soon become irreversible if nothing is done, school strikes have been organised on Fridays across the world in order to force governments to take action. Young people are the future and should get a say in what governments prioritise, but, governments haven't been listening and are not doing anywhere near enough to slow down and reverse climate change. Striking and protesting are the only ways left of forcing them to pay attention.
The strikes were started in August 2018 by the Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg and have since been mirrored across the world.
The SYCS is an alliance of students in Scotland protesting for rapid and comprehensive government action on climate change and we are part of the FridaysForFuture movement.
While Scotland is quite progressive in terms of climate change, there remains a lot to be done in order to prevent climate change from becoming irreversible and action must be taken now in order to ensure a future for humanity.
