Who are we and why are we here?

Scottish Youth Climate Strike (SYCS) is a collective of passionate, determined, young people demanding climate justice from the Scottish government. SYCS organise school strikes and protests in cities all over Scotland.

SYCS is a branch of Fridays For Future (FFF), an inspirational movement of youth demanding system change from governments all over the world, started last year by 15 year old Greta Thunberg in Sweden and mirrored globally.

Human civilisation as we know it is under threat as the sixth mass extinction is in course, thanks to the capitalist economic system of the developed world, which is fuelled by exploitation of precious natural resources and our society's ‘use once and throw away’ mentality.

Although the government has declared a climate emergency, they haven't taken any significant and needed action against the climate crisis and that is what we are here to change.

We aim to bring change to the actions of governments, corporations and people's wasteful behaviours, we protest for net zero carbon emissions by 2030 at the latest.
